Just twelve kilometres long and one kilometre wide, Vamizi Island, fringed with gently-shelving beaches and calm waters, is a haven for adults and children alike. Miles of unpadded white sand waiting to be explored entices you to kick off your shoes and feel the sugar-like grains beneath your feet, whilst beachcombing along the shore.
A refuge for both humans and animals, green turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on the beach; giant coconut crabs nestle within the coral, and in the mangrove forests rare samango monkeys and colourful exotic birds have made Vamizi Island their home too.
Crusoe invented castaway chic, but Vamizi Island defines it, with impossibly romantic timber villas strung loosely along one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Designed with the privacy of honeymooners as well as families in mind, your villa is your own domain where you can truly relax – unwind from the stresses of everyday life with a massage or simply indulge in the view of your own private beach.
Seeking a little island life, you can always find company at the bar and restaurant at Vamizi, the natural focal point of the island. Choose from a range of cocktails or explore our list of fine wines and sink back into the acres of cushions. There’s no dress code here, so kick off your shoes – that is if you’ve even bothered to unpack them.
A slender coral island just off Mozambique's remote northern coast, Vamizi Island is part of the Quirimbas Archipelago.
Guests can connect from South Africa, Mozambique or Tanzania easily within a day, with direct international flights from Europe. Then a private Vamizi flight, which take you straight from Pemba (Mozambique) or Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) to the Vamizi Island airstrip. From there, you are transferred to Vamizi in the “Islandrover” which takes a steady forty five minutes to the lodge.
