What Makes a Luxury Holiday to Qatar So Special?

Great Food and Evening Venues

Doha’s culinary scene, like Qatar itself, offers a spectacular blend of innovation and tradition. Savour traditional slow-cooked ‘machboos’ in the cobbled streets of Old Souq, or head to Evergreen Organics: Doha’s first Vegan and Vegetarian restaurant. The worlds largest Nobu serves exquisite Japanese fusion cuisine, perched high above the Arabian Gulf in a beautiful shell-shaped building. In the gardens of the St. Regis hotel, the celebrated Hakkasan offers award-winning Cantonese fare, while Gordon Ramsay’s Opal is the destination for al fresco terrace dining.

In the evenings, enjoy a cool ocean breeze and relaxing shisha while gazing over Doha’s glittering skyline. Doha’s nightlife is centred around the city’s international hotels, and guests can enjoy sake-infused cocktails on Nobu’s beautiful flower-like roof terrace, or vibrant live DJ’s on The Rooftop of the St. Regis.

Lively Markets and Luxurious Shopping

Per person the richest country in the world, it’s no surprise Qatar’s capital is blessed with exquisite shopping. Indeed, a luxury escape to Doha isn’t complete without browsing the vibrant markets of Souq Waqif, or the magnificent Mall of Qatar. Ride a gondola down the pastel-blue canals of Villagio Mall: a Venice-inspired neighbourhood offering luxury and highstreet brands in Venetian styled interiors. Or, for the ultimate in luxury brands, picturesque promenades and exquisite restaurants, head to The Pearl - a spectacular man-made island just a 15-minute drive from the city centre.

While the luxury offerings are abundant,  Doha is also home to independent shops, hidden galleries, and of course, the sensory Arabian markets of Souq Waqif. Here, visitors can delight in the beautiful embroidered fabrics, fragrant spices, and mouthwatering home-cooked Arabic cuisine.

A Facinating Cultural Heritage

From a modest pearling town to a centre of international enterprise and luxury, Doha’s story is a fascinating one. Care has been taken to preserve its vibrant heritage and culture, and weave its recent history into this rich tapestry. Explore the gorgeous galleries of the Museum of Islamic Art, or pour over the captivating collections at The National Museum of Qatar. The winding waterways, cobbled streets and intricate mosaics of Katara Cultural Village evoke ancient Doha. Home to Qatar’s artists, musicians and filmmakers, visitors can wonder as traditional handicrafts, Batik-dyed silk and swirling Arabic calligraphy are crafted. Traditional dhow’s sail between Doha’s modern wonders; the dazzling Corniche promenade and the magnificent, man-made Pearl Island. From Smoking shisha in a traditional cafe to shopping for hunting falcons in the historical Falcon Souq: Qatar’s living, breathing history is yours to explore.

Sensational Spas

Qatar does luxury incredibly well, and nowhere is this more evident than in the spectacular spas which pepper the capital city.  Sumptuous treatments and rhythmic movements melt away the stiffness of the journey and the stresses of everyday life. Spa rituals offer a perfect blend of East and West, European expertise and Qatari tradition. Succumb to the luminous Pear Escape treatment at St. Regis Remède Spa, or head to the Four Seasons Spa for a romantic Couple Chocolate Delight ritual. Facilities include Olympic-sized swimming pools, traditional hammams - and even an ice room, to banish the warmth of the famous Qatari summers.

Climate

Qatar’s climate can be broadly split into two seasons: Warm, sunny summers between the months of April and October; and more mild winters, which last from December to February. From May to Mid-October, temperatures can exceed 40°C and visitors are advised to enjoy the city’s abundant indoor and air-conditioned attractions. Winters are perfect for outdoor excursions, such as dune bashing on 4X4s, sandboarding, traditional dhow cruises and desert safaris.
