Tucked away on one of Indonesia’s most unexplored islands, Nihi Sumba is a luxury resort with a conscience. This beautiful resort is preserved from modern development and ideal for a romantic break, riding the waves of the great breaks, or working on community projects. The famous left-hand break that established Nihi Sumba as a surfer’s paradise only allows ten guests to ride there at a time. Other guests let the days pass by whilst lounging by the infinity pool or galloping on horseback down the beach.
The 28 villas here are all seductive with elaborate, shell necklaces used as decoration and cushions covered in colourful batik; even the outdoor, egg-shaped bathtubs have been artfully gilded.
Ombak, an exquisitely crafted open-air restaurant, serves a la carte breakfast and dinner daily with a relaxed convivial atmosphere. Just bare footsteps from the sea, the Nio Beach Club serves the highest quality of fresh ingredients for lunch: whether it is a fish just caught from sea, delicious vegetables and legumes from the organic gardens, items from the grill, daily rotisserie or freshly made pizzas from the wood fired clay oven, the Chef and his brigade will satiate your appetite with sumptuously healthy dishes.
The Sumba Foundation is deeply committed to lessening the consequences of poverty on the island of Sumba. The aim is to provide humanitarian aid through village based projects that measurably impact local health by establishing access to clean water, creating educational programs and lessening the effects of Malaria. The Sumba Foundation also prioritises preserving and respecting the fragile culture and traditions of the Sumbanese people. All guests are invited to visit one of the projects such as the school-lunch programme.
