Resort Overview
The oldest hotel in Thailand, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is steeped in history from the eighteenth century, when the region was first recognised as a thriving commercial hub during Thailand’s golden age of trade. Set on Chao Phraya River i.e. the ‘River of Kings’, the historic and monumental hotel retains its period charm and features, with plush, modern fittings.
All 324 rooms and 44 suites have floor-to-ceiling windows for unbeatable views of the river and are lovingly decorated in Thai silk upholstery in bold colours of deep blue, purple and red. Having hosted royalty and highly-acclaimed, world-renowned authors, the hotel’s original building is named the ‘Authors’ Wing’. Early in 2016, this building underwent an extensive renovation, which saw the focus placed on the gargantuan 6,500 square foot Grand Royal Suite. Original details such as traditional fretwork, ceiling mouldings and photographs of famous guests have been retained, with the addition of lavish modern conveniences such as a private gym and spa and elevator access, for a truly regal experience.
Dining is an all-encompassing and international affair at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, with an extraordinary nine restaurants to choose from. Chefs expertly craft infusions that are robustly flavoured from all corners of the globe; for example, Sala Rim Naam honours traditional Thai cuisine in robustly-flavoured dishes like sea crab meat in coconut milk, and Le Normandie is renowned throughout Asia for its standout dishes of imaginative French cuisine.
