Resort Overview

Resort Overview

Maamungau Island has plenty to offer with deep white sand beaches, shallow warm waters and a lagoon and coral reef literally on your doorstep. Just big enough to make use of your complimentary bicycle, it is suitably castaway with enough places to hide. This resort has lots of personality and “can do culture”.

81 Villas and multiple bedroom Residences fringe the island. Beach Villas with Plunge Pools are tucked away under the palms on the natural part of the island. They feature high ceilings, four poster beds and open plan bedrooms/bathrooms with free standing bathtubs. They are quiet and offer the most privacy with gardens leading onto an expanse of blinding white sand. The island has been almost doubled in size with the addition of a man-made beach lagoon lined with unique Duplex Villas perched high up with views both out to the ocean and inward to lagoon facing beaches and with access to the blue lagoon water via sandy pathways. The lagoon area is also home to The Retreat’, an adults only area with a breath-taking infinity pool overlooking the calm lagoon. Extending further from the lagoon into the open ocean are well spaced Over Water Villas. The allure of the curved infinity pool and turquoise waters is hard to deny. All accommodations are vibrant. Décor is gypsy-esque, with wooden floors, splashes of colours, beaded lamps, colourful rugs and oversized crochet cushions.

The 5 restaurants and beverage venues are sure to please. Menus are creative with plenty of variety to the highest of standards. Start the day with breakfast at Café Umi. Situated by the main beach and pool, it combes a minimalistic international buffet and a la carte dining with a Japanese interactive Teppanyaki experience. At the quirky yet photogenic Lighthouse, Mediterranean cuisine with artistic flair is curated inside, but sampled in the pleasant surroundings of the sea breeze infused deck. Adults only enclave - The Retreat, has a variety of different seating areas with outdoor restaurant tables, daybeds, sofas and swinging bar chairs. The infinity pool is perched high with stunning views over the lagoon. Soft drinks here are complimentary along with high tea which is served daily from 3-5pm and don’t miss the daily aperitifs hours from 5-7pm – served with fine cheeses as well as sweet and savoury finger food. Atmospheric stilted Fish Market restaurant offers sunset views with an interactive kitchen concept. If seafood isn’t to your liking the team will delight in creating alternative dishes which are still representative of Maldivian and South Asian flavours. The Collective is a relaxed meeting point located next to the main pool. This Italian style Deli zone serves up wood fired pizza, juices wraps and gelato. Soft drinks at the main pool are also free from 11am – 6pm and there’s a daily happy hour should you fancy a tipple at the swim up bar. For that special occasion choose your own villa, island or sandbank setting to dine with your loved ones with a curated menu and personal chef.

The water sports centre and marine biologists will assist with snorkelling and diving trips around the Raa Atoll's wonderful reefs. Hanifaru Bay - The first UNESCO Biosphere reserve of the Baa Atoll and famous for sighting Manta Ray and Whale Sharks, is just 45 minutes away. Guests are invited to join conservation efforts and presentations as well as excursions to nearby Manta Ray sites and witness turtle nesting on Maamungau. Stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, windsurfing and your snorkel gear loan is all complimentary with jet skis, seabobs and water-skiing are available for a fee. Other activities include yacht cruises, dolphin cruises, complimentary yoga and a 24-hour gym.
The award- winning AVI Spa delivers a profound wellness experience with six soothing overwater sanctuaries offering treatments to inspire relaxation, rejuvenation and restoration.
Enjoy some adult time whilst the younger ones make friends at Planet Trekkers Kids club. This creatively designed space is a youngsters’ paradise to have fun and discover the deep wonders of the Indian Ocean.

Location: A 40-minute seaplane journey and short boat transfer from the pontoon to the jetty brings you to this resort on the southern tip of the Raa Atoll.
