Resort Overview

A Small Luxury Hotel of the World, Blanket Bay, close to Queenstown on New Zealand's South Island, is a captivating Lodge resting in a scenic panorama of nature. This quintessentially-Alpine setting enjoys close proximity to the Humboldt Mountain Range, whose snow-capped peaks reflect in the waters of Lake Wakatipu.

Blanket Bay is set on a 10,000 acre high country farm residing in beautiful isolation, providing many opportune moments for fun like heli-skiing and fly-fishing, cementing Queenstown's reputation as ‘Adventure Capital of the World’. Immerse in all the activities from this wondrous location knowing a warm and welcoming lodge awaits. Laying claim to a rich history of its own, Blanket Bay received its name from events that occurred one century ago; pioneering farmers from Europe sheared their sheep on the shore of the Bay under eight Maori shelters stitched together from woollen blankets. Vestiges of New Zealand's history and tradition are retained throughout the Lodge, particularly in the materials, as naturally-inspired Rooms, Suites, Chalets and communal areas are bedecked with traditional New Zealand stone and timber finishes.

The Great Room inside the Main Lodge is intimately entwined with the landscape through the framed view from the large windows. Channelling the elegance of a refined manor home, period features such as a thirty-foot high bridge beam ceiling and tasteful antique furniture denote old-world charm. The outdoor terrace is the ideal vantage point for watching the sun set beneath the immensity of the shimmering frosted mountain peaks.

A bastion of the New Zealand food scene, dining at Blanket Bay offers local delicacies such as buffalo mozzarella with balsamic jelly and Canterbury Quail, cooked with creative flair by award-winning chefs. A daily-changing five-course menu will keep even the most voracious appetite satiated. Unerringly sophisticated, the property unveils a Wine Cave for exclusive private dining and labels from the best of New Zealand’s vineyards, such as Reislings that are grown and bottled locally in Central Otago.
