Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel - Soneva Fushi, Celebrities and the SLOW LIFE Symposium

Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel – Soneva Fushi Luxury Maldives Eco-Resort

Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel is already a huge preoccupation of the most luxurious hotels and resorts in the Maldives. One of these, Soneva Fushi Luxury Maldives resort, is at the forefront of ecological and environmental development and innovation. Celebrities visit Soneva Fushi to enjoy excellent standards of desert island luxury and to be a part of their Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel efforts.

With great luxury comes great responsibility. Lonely Planet has reported that 70% of travellers expect companies to commit to preservation of the environment. Soneva Fushi and its sister resort, Soneva Kiri in Thailand, are aware of this, and are as enthusiastically meticulous about sustainability as they are about their unfaltering standards of luxury.

For example, Soneva Fushi is the owner of the largest solar power plant in the Maldives and is committed to making compost from used food and paper waste and providing Environmental Awareness Training to their staff – to name but a few of their Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel initiatives. A principal effort comes in the form of the SLOW LIFE Symposium, an event hosted at Soneva Fushi Eco-Resort where celebrity patrons, environmentalists and professional experts join together to discuss ways to achieve the very best in Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel.

The SLOW LIFE Foundation, created by Sonu Shivdasani CEO of The Soneva Group, is dedicated to promoting the conscientious welfare of the environment and all its inhabitants. Standing for Sustainable-Local-Organic-Wellness and Learning-Inspiring-Fun-Experiences, the SLOW LIFE Foundation explores and promotes ways to combine economically effective and environmentally beneficial systems to provide great experiences and surroundings for all.

Last year’s SLOW LIFE Symposium saw discussions on Ocean Stewardship, Food Sourcing, Learn-to-Swim Programmes and ways to minimise the overall environmental impact of fishing for Soneva Fushi’s Luxury Maldives dining facilities.

The most recent SLOW LIFE Symposium was held in November 2014 and continued to develop these Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel initiatives alongside new ones. These included ways to benefit the local community and minimise the negative effects of the Luxury Travel Industry on such a fragile host environment, sustainable farming and use of food, and making the reefs more resilient.

Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel – The Celebrities and Attendees

When it comes to discussing "Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel", the SLOW LIFE Foundation know exactly who to invite. Over the years, The SLOW LIFE Symposium has seen world-renowned environmental pioneers, leading business professionals, NGOs and celebrity environmentalists join together to discuss ways to develop Sustainable Travel in the Maldives and beyond.

Richard Branson, one of the worlds most successful and influential business leaders, has been known to attend the SLOW LIFE Symposium to discuss Luxury Maldives Sustainable Travel at Soneva Fushi Luxury Maldives Eco-Resort. As the founder of Virgin Group, Richard Branson is influential over worldwide businesses and does a lot to promote environmental responsibility. For example, he actively rewards his own businesses for their environmental work, personally attends environmental conservation events and has created several of his own initiatives.

Daryl Hannah, an actor and environmentalist, is perhaps most famous for her roles in films such as ‘Splash’, ‘Kill Bill’ and ‘Wall Street’. However, as founder of the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance (SBA), and a member of numerous environmental advocacy boards, Daryl Hannah is also a keen, dedicated and influential environmentalist.

Jenifer Willig and Karena Albers co-founded WHOLE WORLD Water and partnered with the SLOW LIFE Foundation to supply 600,000 people with access to safe drinking water or basic sanitation services. WHOLE WORLD Water is a scheme where hotels bottle and sell their own filtered drinking water, using recyclable bottles, and contribute 10% of water revenues to clean water projects around the world. This initiative could raise approximately $1 billion if the hospitality industry unites over this issue.
