Resort Overview

Spread across a golden-sanded, sapphire-blue bay on Sri Lanka’s southernmost coast: Amawella’s location is breathtaking. The resort itself, a spectacular example of tropical minimalist design, lies immersed within a tranquil coconut plantation. For wildlife lovers, couples and families with older children, Amanwella’s secluded suites and excellent location are ideal.

30 spacious suites lie peppered throughout the bay’s lush coconut grove. Each zen-like dwelling hosts a large plunge pool and a sweeping sun terrace, facing either the glittering ocean or swaying coconut palms. The style, inspired by the pioneering Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, combines soothing tropical minimalism with sumptuous Sri Lankan luxury. Suites 108-114 are exquisite, and offer picturesque views of the glittering blue bay.

Excursions to the spectacular national wildlife parks of Yala and Udawalawe can be arranged, sanctuaries for Sri Lankan leopards, elephants, red-spotted deer and water buffalo. Stroll to Amanwella’s golden beach, between the months of December and April, and guests can be greeted with the breathtaking sight of blue whales embarking on their annual migration. Spinner dolphins and sperm whales are also frequent visitors, while green turtles lay their eggs in the quiet seclusion of other, nearby beaches. Tours of Sri Lanka’s Ceylon tea plantations, Palapotta village and the extraordinary rock temples of Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaare will delight culture lovers and curious minds.

After exploring the treasures of Amanwella’s stunning surroundings, return to the tranquil coconut grove for an array of exquisite delights and diversions. Allow a traditional warm-oil Abhyanga massage to melt away your worries, or gaze at swaying palms and rolling waves from the infinity-edged swimming pool. Soothing yoga classes are held by the beach, while the teal-blue bay is perfect for scuba diving and surfing. Standing on a duel-level raised platform for panoramic views of the tropical bay and coconut grove: the Restaurant is a delight. A range of colourful dishes and fresh catch of the day are served here, with vibrant curry leaves and spices plucked straight from the bountiful island.
