Luxury Resorts in South Africa

South Africa is one of Only Exclusive Travel's Top 10 Destinations 2014!

South Africa, most well-known for producing one of the most politically prominent figures in existence, Nelson Mandela, overflows with reasons to visit. Being home to one of the oldest mountains in the world (Table Mountain), 11 official languages, the cheapest electricity and most luxurious train in the world (Rovos Rail), South Africa is a memorable and diverse holiday destination on the other side of the equator.

With 21 national parks, eight world heritage sites, 3,500 kilometres of pristine coastline, a phenomenal climate and adventures ranging from shark-diving to wine tasting, you’d be a fool to pass up the opportunity to visit this culturally rich nation. Being the world’s largest macadamia nut exporter, and second largest exporter of fruit, South Africa makes the most of its rich and fruitful terrain. Also deriving from the nourishing soils are gold, chromium, coal, iron, nickel, gem diamonds, platinum and many more elements and natural compounds. Holiday here and see what beautiful souvenirs you can find.

Weather

The climate varies throughout South Africa; there's really no bad time to visit, as every season is perfect for different holiday pursuits.

Temperatures in South Africa tend to be lower than in other countries at similar latitudes, mainly due to greater ground elevation above sea level. That said, the weather and climate are influenced by a variety of factors from ocean currents from different regions, the topography of the landscape, and coastal orientation. From extreme to extreme, South Africa has bouts of snow between June-August in the mountain areas, rain in the afternoon during the summer (November-February) everywhere in the country except in the Cape Province, and an overall sunny, warm, sub-tropical master climate. Those who go to South Africa specifically for animal viewing may want to go during winter (May-July), as grass is short, and the animals tend to gather around watering holes and so are easily observed.

Activities

There is very little that South Africa cannot offer, especially if you know where to look. Amongst the highlights are the wildlife and countryside when staying at one of the luxury safaris, as well as the sailing, trekking and underwater activities that can be embarked upon.

Countryside & Wildlife

Countryside & Wildlife

South Africa is home to some of nature's most magnificent giants: plodding elephants, roaring lions, munching rhinos, slinking leopards and stomping buffalos all own the land. Stay in one of South Africa's safari resorts and see these imposing creatures right before your very eyes. The safaris in South Africa are a main tourist attraction for the destination, for good reason.

Watersports

Watersports

With thousands of kilometres of coastline, South Africa’s sailing locations are countless, and each one more incredible than the next. Out on the open ocean, marvelling at the silence and soaking in the warm sun on your face - sailing in South Africa provides incredible sights and experiences that cannot be missed.

Trekking

Trekking

South Africa offers some of the most exciting and varied trekking and hiking opportunities in the World from easy day hikes on famous Table Mountain to treks in the high and remote mountain ranges or along the rugged coast line.

Underwater Activities

Underwater Activities

South Africa has almost 3,000 kilometers of coastline. The country’s shores are lapped by both the icy cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the warmer waters of the Indian Ocean. In fact, these two oceans meet at the very tip of the African continent in a tumult of rock, water and strong undercurrents. Because of this, the water temperature varies the whole way along the coast and you will find that South Africa’s oceans are home to great white sharks, whales who go to birth, and bottlenose dolphins. The oceans also hold reefs, sunken vessels and a variety of animal life.

Fishing

Fishing

With such an expansive coastline, numerous dams, lakes, rivers and streams, South Africa has plenty to offer fishing enthusiasts. From game fish in two oceans to trout in mountain streams, there is something to challenge and entertain everyone. Many of South Africa's prime fishing spots offer not only good fishing, but also include some of the most beautiful places in a country blessed by Mother Nature.

Helicopter Tours

Helicopter Tours

South Africa is a beautiful country, offering some of the most beautiful scenery, landscapes and sights in the world. Helicopter flights in South Africa allow you the joys of a bird’s eye-view of the scenic beauty that South Africa has to offer. South Africa is home to a number of locations from which helicopter flips are arranged.

Golf

Golf

South Africa has long been a popular destination for safari, but in recent decades it has boarded the golfing bandwagon, and now boasts some of the world's finest resorts. Those familiar with the country will understand the phenomenal natural beauty of the landscape, and it is this incredible terrain that forms the basis of South Africa's best courses.

Shopping

Shopping

Large shopping centres are to be found across the country's cities and towns, where everything from giant chain stores to small speciality boutiques are the location of all of your holiday souvenirs. Suburban high street shops, large flea-markets, craftspeople at traffic intersections, minibus taxi ranks and on inner city pavements, selling everything from sweets and fruit to elaborate sculptures and home furnishings can even be found. South Africa's rural areas are dotted with farm stalls, arts and crafts markets and more.

Horse Riding

Horse Riding

There are more riding safaris and holidays in South Africa than anywhere else in Africa and the country has such diversity of scenery that there are many different types of horse-riding excursions. The quality of the horses, guides and routes are second to none, including the opportunity to ride a stone's throw from elephants, buffalos and lions. Such riding can be restricted to experienced riders but there are also safaris and trail rides for the less experienced.

Nightlife

Nightlife

Heritage and culture have combined to create a huge range of nightlife entertainment in South Africa. Nightclubs that cater for every taste, style and genre imaginable can be found. When one refers to South Africa as the rainbow nation, one might as well be referring to its many facets of fun as much as its ethnic and biodiversity; you will find jazz and salsa clubs next door to house and trance venues and up the road from clubs playing rock, kwaito, hip-hop, punk or heavy metal. Traditional music clubs, pop music clubs, theme bars and retrospective clubs all exist.

Beaches

Beaches

With soft white sand, beautiful blue waters and clear blue skies, South Africa boasts some of the best beaches in the world. The vast and striking coastline is dotted with warm sandy beaches and interesting rocky shorelines by both the Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Whilst staying at Cape Grace, you are but a short walk away from the beach.
